Best weekend ski trips from the UK

The best weekend ski trips from the UK are luxury resorts with short airport transfers and excellent skiing, such as Chamonix, Courmayeur, Verbier and Morzine, all of which are accessible from the UK for a 3- or 4-night ski escape.

If you’re planning a weekend ski trip from the UK, you’ll want a location that has short transfers, reliable skiing, beautiful hotels and enough Alpine atmosphere to make three or four nights feel like a proper escape.

For a ski weekend, I always think the details matter even more than they do on a longer holiday. Flight times, private transfers, ski hire, lift passes, restaurant bookings and hotel location can be the difference between arriving relaxed and losing half a day to logistics.

That is where working with a luxury travel agent really helps. If you are planning a short luxury ski holiday and want it to feel effortless from the moment you leave the UK, get in touch and I can help design the right itinerary for you.

What makes a great weekend ski trip?

For me, the best weekend ski trips have three things in common:

They are easy to reach, ideally with a transfer of around 60 to 90 minutes from the airport.

They have enough skiing to keep you excited for a few days, without feeling like you’re leaving the resort and missing out.

They offer something nice off the slopes, whether that is a beautiful spa, long mountain lunches, a lively après scene or a really special hotel.

Here are some of my favourite luxury ski resorts for a weekend escape from the UK.

Chamonix, France

Chamonix

Chamonix is one of those resorts that always feels exciting, even before you have clicked into your skis.

Set beneath Mont Blanc, it has a real mountain-town energy. It is stylish, energetic, adventurous and brilliant for skiers who want to test themselves on slightly harder runs. The transfer from Geneva is around an hour, which makes it one of the easiest luxury ski weekends from the UK.

What I love about Chamonix is the scale of it. The views are epic, the skiing is challenging, and the town has enough restaurants, bars and boutiques to make the evenings feel just as special as the days.

For a short trip, I would be very selective about where you stay. A central hotel works beautifully if you want atmosphere and easy evenings, but it’s worth choosing the right one.

Courmayeur, Italy

Courmayeur

Courmayeur is one of my favourite choices for a long weekend because it gives you proper skiing, gorgeous food and that unmistakable Italian warmth.

It sits on the Italian side of Mont Blanc and is usually reached via Geneva or Turin. The ski area is not massive, but for three or four nights, that is exactly the point. You can ski beautifully in the morning, stop for a long lunch on the mountain, then wander down to the village in the evening for dinner, shopping and a little aperitivo.

Courmayeur is a great choice for couples, groups of friends and anyone who likes the idea of mixing skiing with great restaurants and a lovely hotel.

Megève, France

Megève

Megève is perfect if your idea of a ski weekend involves beautiful hotels, pretty streets, delicious restaurants and a very polished Alpine feel.

It is around 70 minutes from Geneva, so it works brilliantly for a short break from the UK.

Although be warned, the skiing here is probably better for those at an intermediate level, rather than those starting fresh or looking for an adrenaline filled time on the slopes.

What I love about Megève is that it never feels rushed. Even on a short trip, there is a sense of calm luxury here. You can ski in the morning, enjoy a long lunch, return to a spa, then head out into the village for a really special dinner.

It is particularly lovely for couples, food lovers and anyone who wants the charm of a traditional Alpine village with five-star polish.

Verbier, Switzerland

verbier

Verbier is for people who want their weekend ski trip to feel energetic and fun.

It has some of the best skiing in Switzerland, especially for confident advanced skiers, and the après-ski scene is one of the most famous in the Alps. It is not the shortest transfer on this list, but for the right client, it is worth it.

Verbier is a particularly good option for groups of friends who want excellent skiing by day and a lively atmosphere by night. The hotels, chalets and restaurants can be exceptional, but it is definitely a place where planning ahead pays off.

For a weekend, I would always build the itinerary carefully: the right flights, a smooth transfer, pre-arranged ski hire, restaurant reservations and a hotel or chalet location that avoids unnecessary faff.

That is exactly the kind of trip I can help with. If you want a luxury Verbier ski weekend that feels easy rather than exhausting, I can design it around you. Get in touch to find out more.

St Anton, Austria

St Anton

St Anton is one of the great names in skiing, and for good reason.

It is best for strong skiers who want big terrain, long days on the mountain and a legendary après-ski scene. Flying into Innsbruck keeps the journey manageable, making it a strong option for a short Austrian ski break.

What I love about St Anton is the energy. It has that classic Austrian warmth, but with serious skiing behind it. You can ski hard, stop somewhere atmospheric for lunch, then end the day with music, drinks and a very lively mountain crowd.

For a luxury weekend, I would pair St Anton with a beautiful hotel, excellent spa facilities and private transfers, so the whole trip still feels polished and relaxed.

Morzine, France

Morzine

Morzine is a brilliant choice if you want lots of skiing but still want a proper village feel.

It is part of the huge Portes du Soleil ski area, giving access to a vast network of pistes across France and Switzerland. The transfer from Geneva is usually just over an hour, so it works very well for a weekend.

Morzine has a slightly softer feel than Chamonix or St Anton. It is friendly, attractive and great for mixed-ability groups, especially if some people want long ski days while others prefer a slower pace.

For a luxury trip, I would focus on high-end chalets or boutique hotels, with everything arranged in advance so you can make the most of every hour.

La Clusaz, France

La Clusaz is a lovely choice for a more understated ski weekend. It is close to Geneva and has a beautiful traditional village feel. It is not as flashy as some of the better-known resorts, but that is part of its charm.

I like La Clusaz for families, couples and groups who want something pretty but not too polished. You still get great food, beautiful nature and quick access from the UK, but the whole experience feels a little more relaxed and local.

For a short trip, I would recommend staying as centrally as possible so you can walk easily to lifts, restaurants and cafés.

Seefeld, Austria

Seefeld

Seefeld is a very different kind of ski weekend, and that is why I like it.

Just a short transfer from Innsbruck, it is a great option for beginners, families and anyone who wants a gentler Alpine escape rather than a full-throttle ski trip. It is also wonderful for cross-country skiing, winter walks and spa-focused stays.

This is a great choice if the skiing is only one part of the holiday. Think mountain views, wellness, elegant hotels and a slower pace.

Why book a weekend ski trip with a luxury travel agent?

A weekend ski trip sounds simple to organise, but it is actually one of the easiest holidays to get wrong.

When you only have three or four nights, you don’t want awkward flight times, slow transfers, a hotel too far from the lifts or ski hire that eats into your first morning. Every detail has to work harder.

When I plan luxury weekend ski trips from the UK, I look at the whole picture: the best resort for your dates, the most sensible airport to fly into, private transfers, hotel location, ski level, restaurant bookings, childcare if needed, spa time and those little touches that make the trip feel special.

The aim is simple: you arrive, breathe and enjoy the mountains. I handle the rest.
